¿Qué es Verb (+object) + to...?

Esta estructura se usa cuando un verbo va seguido de un objeto (un sustantivo o pronombre) y luego un infinitivo con to. Expresa que el hablante quiere, pide, dice o espera que alguien realice una acción.

  • Patrón: Sujeto + verbo + objeto + to + verbo base (I want you to attend).
  • Verbos comunes: want, ask, tell, advise, expect, persuade, allow, require.
  • Se usa para informar solicitudes, deseos, órdenes, consejos, expectativas y permisos.

¿Dónde colocar el objeto y 'to'?

Lo más importante es el orden correcto: verbo → objeto → to-infinitivo.

  • Orden correcto: Sujeto + verbo + objeto + to + verbo base. (We asked the vendor to confirm.)
  • El objeto puede ser un sustantivo o pronombre: I want Mary to lead. / I want her to lead.
  • Las formas negativas y las preguntas mantienen el mismo orden interno: I didn't want him to come. / Did you ask them to participate?

Recuerda: después de verbos como want/ask/tell, coloca el objeto antes de 'to' + verbo.

Errores comunes a evitar

Los estudiantes suelen confundir estructuras similares o colocar mal los elementos. Cuidado con estos errores universales.

  • Usar un gerundio en lugar del infinitivo con to (incorrecto: I want you doing this.).
  • Colocar 'to' antes del objeto (incorrecto: I want to you to attend.).
  • Olvidar el objeto cuando el verbo lo requiere (incorrecto: She asked to leave.).
  • Mezclar verbos que necesitan diferentes patrones (algunos verbos requieren gerundios, otros infinitivos con to).
