¿Qué es el futuro continuo (will, shall)?

El futuro continuo describe acciones que estarán en progreso en un momento específico del futuro. Se forma con will (o shall en inglés británico formal con I/we) + be + participio presente (-ing). Se usa para hablar de actividades futuras en curso, acciones paralelas o para preguntar cortésmente sobre planes.

  • Forma: will/shall + be + -ing (p. ej.: I will be working).
  • Uso: acción en curso en un momento futuro (At 5 PM tomorrow, she will be presenting).
  • Uso: dos actividades simultáneas en el futuro (While you call, I will be preparing the report).

Regla clave: Cuándo usar el futuro continuo

El futuro continuo se centra en acciones en progreso en un momento específico del futuro o en dos acciones que ocurren a la vez.

Common mistakes with the future continuous

Ten cuidado con los errores que suelen confundir a los estudiantes con el futuro continuo.

  • Usar will + verbo base en lugar de will be + -ing cuando se quiere indicar 'en progreso' (p. ej.: incorrecto: I will attend at 3 PM → esto no enfatiza la acción en progreso).
  • Confundir el present continuous para eventos planificados con el future continuous para acciones en progreso en un momento futuro.
  • Usar una expresión temporal incorrecta o colocarla de forma extraña (p. ej.: 'I will be tomorrow meeting' es incorrecto).
  • Usar en exceso 'shall' en el inglés hablado moderno; 'shall' es mayormente formal y se limita a I/we en muchas variedades.
