Esta lección explica cómo informar diferentes actos de habla: ofertas, sugerencias, órdenes (mandatos), intenciones y comentarios relacionados. Al reportar estas expresiones, a menudo cambian los tiempos verbales, los pronombres, las expresiones de tiempo y la estructura de la oración. Se usan verbos de reporte diferentes según el acto original.

  • Usa verbos de reporte específicos (offered, suggested, ordered, intended, promised) para mostrar el acto del hablante.
  • Las ofertas y promesas suelen usar 'to' + infinitivo (He offered to help; She promised to send it).
  • Las sugerencias pueden reportarse con -ing (He suggested postponing) o con 'that' + should (He suggested that we should postpone).
  • Las órdenes y mandatos usan 'told' u 'ordered' + objeto + to-infinitive (The boss told him to finish).
  • Las intenciones se reportan con 'intended to' o 'was/were going to' según el tiempo.

Relaciona el verbo de reporte con el acto original y cambia la forma verbal en consecuencia:

  • Ofertas / promesas → verbo de reporte + to-infinitive: He offered to help. She promised to send it.
  • Sugerencias → suggest + -ing O suggest + that + should (BrE): He suggested revising the plan. / He suggested that we should revise the plan.
  • Órdenes / mandatos → told/ordered + objeto + to-infinitive: The director told them to improve quality.
  • Intenciones → said + (that) + sujeto + intended to O was/were going to: She said she intended to attend. / She said she was going to attend.

Elige verbos de reporte precisos (offer, suggest, order, promise, refuse, intend) para reflejar el significado del hablante.

Common mistakes to avoid

Cuidado con estos errores universales al reportar ofertas, sugerencias, órdenes e intenciones:

  • Usar el verbo de reporte equivocado: no uses 'said' si el hablante en realidad ofreció, sugirió, ordenó o prometió—elige un verbo preciso.
  • Forma verbal incorrecta después del verbo de reporte: después de 'suggest', no uses infinitivo sin 'to' (usa -ing o una cláusula 'that').
  • Orden de palabras incorrecto en órdenes reportadas: evita omitir el objeto antes de 'to' (The manager told to finish → incorrect).
  • Olvidar cambiar el tiempo o las expresiones temporales si es necesario: mantén una secuencia lógica (p. ej., 'tomorrow' puede convertirse en 'the next day').
  • Usar el orden de pregunta en los reportes: convierte las preguntas al orden de la afirmación (She asked where the files were, not She asked where are the files).
