Do you know where...? He asked me where...

Esta lección explica las preguntas indirectas (embebidas) con palabras interrogativas y cómo reportar preguntas. Aprenderás a formar preguntas embebidas (sin inversión), a reportar preguntas con verbos de reporte y cuándo cambiar el tiempo verbal y los pronombres.

  • Las preguntas embebidas (p. ej.: Do you know where the meeting is?) mantienen el orden de la oración afirmativa: sujeto + verbo.
  • Al reportar una pregunta, usa verbos de reporte (ask, wonder, inquire) y normalmente se retrocede el tiempo verbal: «He asked me where the meeting was.»
  • Las preguntas de sí/no se introducen con if/whether: «She asked if I could attend.»
  • Los pronombres y expresiones temporales pueden cambiar en el estilo indirecto: «today» → «that day».

Regla clave: orden de palabras y verbos de reporte

Recuerda dos puntos principales para preguntas embebidas y reportadas:

  • Las preguntas embebidas usan el orden de la oración afirmativa: sujeto + verbo (sin inversión). Ejemplo: «Do you know where the office is?» NO «Do you know where is the office?»
  • Al reportar una pregunta, usa un verbo de reporte (ask, wonder, inquire) y normalmente retrocede el tiempo si el verbo de reporte está en pasado: «He asked where the office was.»

Para preguntas de sí/no usa if/whether; cambia las expresiones temporales y los pronombres cuando sea necesario.

Errores comunes a evitar

Presta atención a estos errores universales al formar preguntas embebidas y reportadas:

  • Usar el orden interrogativo (inversión) dentro de una pregunta embebida: Incorrecto: «Do you know where is the office?»
  • Mantener el auxiliar 'do' en preguntas embebidas sin necesidad: Incorrecto: «Can you tell me do you have the file?»
  • Olvidar retroceder el tiempo verbal en el estilo indirecto cuando corresponde: Incorrecto: «He asked me where the meeting is.» (si se informa más tarde)
  • No cambiar expresiones de tiempo o pronombres al reportar: p. ej., no cambiar «today» por «that day».

Comprueba siempre el orden de palabras, los auxiliares, el retroceso de tiempos y las referencias (pronombres/tiempo).
