Phrasal verbs 2 - in/out

Los phrasal verbs con las partículas "in" y "out" combinan un verbo + partícula para crear significados relacionados con movimiento, entrada/salida, finalización, participación o acceso a datos. Muchos aparecen en contextos laborales y cotidianos; la partícula cambia o matiza el significado del verbo.

  • Pueden ser separables (el objeto puede colocarse entre el verbo y la partícula) o inseparables.
  • "In" suele sugerir entrar, unirse, añadir o completar.
  • "Out" suele sugerir salir, distribuir, quitar o hacer público.

Regla clave: separables vs inseparables

Una regla esencial para los phrasal verbs: saber si el verbo es separable (el objeto puede colocarse entre el verbo y la partícula) o inseparable (el objeto debe seguir a la partícula).

  • Separable: puedes decir "hand the report in" o "hand in the report"; con un pronombre, colócalo entre el verbo y la partícula: "hand it in".
  • Inseparable: el objeto debe ir después de la partícula: "look after the client" (no *"look the client after").
  • Muchos phrasal verbs con 'in'/'out' son separables, pero siempre consulta ejemplos en el diccionario o practica.

Errores comunes a evitar

Los estudiantes suelen cometer errores previsibles con los phrasal verbs. Cuidado con estas trampas universales:

  • Colocar pronombres después de la partícula en verbos separables (incorrecto: *"turn off it").
  • Tratar cada partícula como si tuviera el mismo significado: las partículas cambian el sentido del verbo.
  • Confundir verbos separables e inseparables y colocar el objeto en la posición equivocada.
  • Usar traducciones literales que ignoran el significado idiomático (traducción palabra por palabra).
  • Olvidar ajustar la partícula al cambiar de tiempo o voz (p. ej., la voz pasiva puede requerir otra estructura).
