Still, yet, already

Estos tres adverbios ayudan a hablar del tiempo respecto al presente: acciones en curso (still), acciones esperadas pero no realizadas (yet), y acciones completadas antes de lo esperado (already). Son frecuentes en inglés cotidiano y de negocios (correos, informes, actualizaciones).

  • still: enfatiza que una situación continúa (a menudo con BE, tiempos continuos o negaciones).
  • yet: se usa en preguntas y negaciones para preguntar o decir si algo ha ocurrido hasta ahora (a menudo al final).
  • already: indica que algo ocurrió antes de lo esperado (aparece antes del verbo principal o al final).

  • Usa yet en preguntas y negaciones, normalmente al final: Have you finished yet? / I haven't finished yet.

Errores comunes (y cómo corregirlos)

Los estudiantes suelen confundir la colocación o elegir el adverbio incorrecto. Atento a estos errores:

  • Incorrecto: I didn't finished yet. → Correcto: I haven't finished yet. (usa auxiliar + participio pasado)
  • Incorrecto: Do you already send the file? → Correcto: Have you already sent the file? o Did you send the file already? (usa present perfect o coloca already correctamente)
  • Incorrecto: I still have sent the invoice. → Correcto: I have still not sent the invoice. / I still haven't sent the invoice. (still con negaciones requiere el orden correcto del auxiliar)
  • Colocar yet en oraciones afirmativas suele ser incorrecto cuando quieres decir 'ya' (usa 'already' en afirmativas).

Consejo: primero comprueba el tipo de oración (afirmativa/negativa/pregunta) — eso te dice si usar yet, already o still.
